How do I install my Tactical Trap?

We have videos at this link: http://www.tacticaltraps.com/install/

And also at that link are...

- Mounting instructions
- How to adjust a crooked shelf. (Sometimes that happens in shipping but there's a super easy 5 second fix)
- How to adjust a shelf that doesn’t close properly (Sometimes that happens in shipping but there’s also a super easy 5 second fix)
- How to cut your foam to fit your weapon.
Note: Don’t remove the lock batteries when installing the product because if you shut it without batteries in it… you won’t be able to get back in! Please let us know if you have any questions after viewing the videos or need help with anything, feel free to email us at support@tacticaltraps.com.

Can my Tactical Trap be installed on a brick or block wall?

Yes! It's actually really simple.  You'll need a drill, masonry bit, and 2 or 3 concrete/masonry wall anchors.

Here's a demo video we found on Youtube that explains the process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuhyAe8_yJc

Simply insert the anchors into your wall ... then line the back of your shelf up with the holes and screw them in. You can buy these anchors at any hardware or home goods store.

How do I use the battery backup?

That's a great question. Let me explain how the lock and battery backup work...
  1. When the battery on your lock gets low it will beep 3X instead of one and open.  When you hear that type of beep, open the battery compartment by removing the one screw and change the batteries. You'll be good for another 6 or so months.
  2. If you don't change the battery and it goes dead...this is where the battery back up included in your shelf comes to play. What you'll do (if the unit is dead) is take a paper clip and fish out the wire we have stick to the inside top of the shelf. You'll pull it through the gap between the top and bottom of the shelf towards you. Our newest model shelves have a plug discreetly on the bottom of the shelf - if you have one of those, simply plug in the battery backup there and it will work when you swipe your key over the top.
  3. After the wire I fished out, plug the battery back up into the wire and open the shelf like normal. The battery back up needs to have 4 AA installed for it to work.
  4. After you get the shelf open, change the batteries and store the battery backup in a place you won't lose in case your batteries ever go dead.

For battery backups in the front of the shelf, in order to fish the backup wire out simply take an "L" shaped allen wrench or a paper clip, loop it over the wire and gently pull down. The back up wire is attached to the top of the shelf with double-sided adhesive so it needs just a small tug to come loose.

How does the LED light work?

The LED light is motion sensitive.  It will require 3 AA batteries and will mount to the inside top portion of your trap using the included 3M sticky disc. When you install the batteries the light will automatically come on. It will shut off once it is mounted and closed inside your Tactical Trap and will come on again when opened. If you would like to test this theory and see for yourself how it works, simply set the light on a table and cover with a towel. It will shut off after several seconds and will come back on when the towel is removed.

Can I get a custom made shelf or flag?

Absolutely! Do you have a mantle you want to transform into a Tactical Trap? How about a specific species of wood (dark walnut, cherry, teak, etc) you have in mind? Or maybe you have a McMillan TAC-50 and need unique measurements to accommodate your firearm(s). No worries! Whatever you want our, master craftsmen can custom build to your exact specifications. We've built everything from a 72" inch long shelf to a shelf made from solid Bocote (an exotic wood species). The only thing that limits you is your imagination.

Pricing on each custom piece depends on the material and time needed to complete. So if you have something in mind, simply call us at (800) 651-9171 or contact us by email for a quote for your one of a kind Tactical Trap!
