Where are the instructions and how do I mount the unit?

All products should include the paperwork needed to operate and install the unit but if you did not receive that, you can download the manuals from here.  We also have installation videos here.  If you have any questions after reviewing these sites please let us know.

Where's my stuff?

Our Tactical Traps are all made to order and typically ship out in approximately 5-7 business days from the order date via UPS ground from Indiana. Depending on many factors (holidays, quality control, etc.) production can be a bit sooner or a take a bit longer. **Orders placed in November/December sometimes WILL run later than 17 day production times. Giftcards sent with holiday orders cannot be applied towards past purchases.** When your order is prepared for shipment you will receive an email from UPS with your tracking number and scheduled delivery date. If you ordered from our catalog website, you can also log into your customer account and view the shipping number if you didn't receive the email. Please make sure to check your Junk folder and if you still have not received your tracking number, please give us a call during our business hours (Monday-Friday, 10am-3pm CST) at (800) 651-9171 and we'll be happy to help you!

For items like the Tactical RECON watch or Stealth X7 cameras, those usually ship in 1-2 business days of your order via UPS Mail Innovations. Check your email for a tracking link (be sure to check the junk folder as they sometimes end up there.)

If you need an order FAST for a Christmas, birthday or anniversary gift - no worries! We offer e-gift certificates that you can email right to your recipient, for any dollar amount you want, so they can come to the site and choose whatever shelf they want! Can my Tactical Trap be installed on a brick or block wall?

Yes! It's actually really simple.  You'll need a drill, masonry bit, and 2 or 3 concrete/masonry wall anchors.

Here's a demo video we found on Youtube that explains the process: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuhyAe8_yJc

Simply insert the anchors into your wall ... then line the back of your shelf up with the holes and screw them in. You can buy these anchors at any hardware or home goods store.

How do I use the battery backup?

As stated on the paperwork included with all orders, Tactical Trap locks run off batteries and need to be changed about every 6 months.  All of our shelves and flags now have battery backup units so in case your lock batteries die, you can still open your shelf.

Here's how the battery back up works:

1.) Insert 4 AAA batteries into the black battery backup pack that came with your shelf.
2.) Insert the cord on the pack into the small auxiliary hole on the bottom of your shelf.
3.) Take 1 RFID card and scan over the lock area on top of your shelf.

Your shelf will then open as normal, so once open please make sure to change the batteries inside your lock!

*For older shelves with battery backups located in the front of the shelf, in order to fish the backup wire out simply take an "L" shaped allen wrench or a paper clip, loop it over the wire and gently pull the cord out. You can plug the battery backup unit into that cord and again using 1 RFID card, scan it over the top of your shelf and open as usual.

I forgot to change my batteries and I can't open my unit! What do I do?

Depending on when you placed your order, your unit can be opened in several ways:

1.) All orders placed in 2019 and forward will be equipped with battery backup units - please follow the instructions listed above to open your shelf.

**NOTICE: After several years and thousands of dollars spent, we were able to get our lock vendor to add battery backup capabilities to our locks in late 2018 (some orders) and to all orders from 2019 forward.  This technology was not available before this time, and as soon as it was available we made it standard for our Traps.  Just like Sony stopped making VCR players and changed to DVD when the technology was ready, we changed to an upgraded lock version as soon as it was available for our customers.

2.) If your unit did not come with a battery backup pack and you cannot open your unit but are hearing multiple beeps when trying to, swipe the RFID card and hear the multiple beeps, start to jiggle the bottom of the shelf quickly back and forth without pushing 'up' -- the multiple beeps are a sign the batteries are low so you don't want to push 'up' to keep the lock latched at this point. You have to do this quickly after you hear the multiple beeps. **You need to try this multiple times as you have a limited time frame to do this before the lock re-engages. It can take up to 10 times for this to release the locking mechanism**

If you do not have a battery backup, and the other method above doesn't help, please send an email to support@tacticaltraps.com and our support staff will assist you in safely opening the unit.

My shelf will close but it won't latch anymore - what do I do?

Most likely a lock 'reboot' will take care of this issue!  Take out all 4 (four) AAA batteries, leave the shelf open and wait about 30 minutes. Then put 4 NEW AAA alkaline batteries inside the lock. The 30 minute wait is crucial to reboot the lock.  Try to close your shelf again at this time and it should latch correctly. Let us know if you have more questions.

How do I change my batteries?

Your Tactical Trap runs off 4 AAA alkaline batteries inside the black locking mechanism that is attached to the inside of your shelf. You simply need to pop off the lock cover and install new batteries every 6 months or so. If you want a more visual demonstration, click here for a short video of a lock similar to what we use that can help you.

Can I stop the lock from beeping?

The lock beeps as a security feature to let you know your shelf is open and your firearms are not secured. ***IMPORTANT: You can remove the batteries to mount your shelf if the beep really bothers you, BUT DO NOT CLOSE THE SHELF AFTERWARDS WITHOUT FIRST PUTTING THE BATTERIES BACK INSIDE YOUR LOCK.  [Make sure you listen for the 4th 'beep' after installing the 4th battery - if you don't hear it, don't close the shelf. Orders from 2019 and forward (some from 2018) have battery backup packs that you can use to open the shelf even if batteries were removed from the locks.]

For locks dated July 2019 and forward, click here to get a sound disabling card you can use to remove the sound from your lock. **Older shelves using that card might not be able to get beeping sound back at all with use of the card. Note that if you choose to disable the beep completely, you will not get the rapid-beep notice when the batteries are draining in your lock. Bluetooth lock orders will be able to monitor battery voltage from our Tactical Traps app as well as disable the beep right from the app.

*****DO NOT PRESS Reset button or any other buttons on the lock as you will deprogram the lock.
